Donut knotjes II

Al eerder schreef ik een artikel over donut knotjes: knotjes gemaakt met behulp van een donut, een groot elastiek met een gat in het midden. Deze donut schuif je over een staart, het haar gaat eroverheen en dan een gewoon elastiek eromheen om de knot te maken.

In mijn eerdere artikel schreef ik over het afmaken van de knot: het haar eromheen wikkelen en vastzetten of nog een leuke vlecht eerst maken. Maar waarom zou je niet eens wat met het haar doen voor je de knot gaat maken?

De techniek voor deze andere knot wordt een Gevlochten knot genoemd (in het Engels braided bun). Je begint nog steeds met een staart en schuift de donut hier overheen. Nu pak je echter een klein plukje haar van de staart, niet al het haar. Begin met dit kleine plukje een vlecht. Vlecht door tot je vlechtje lang genoeg is om over de donut heen te brengen. Doe er dan geen elastiekje omheen, maar leg het vlechtje over de donut en trek het uiteinde aan de binnenkant van de donut omhoog. Als het goed is, is het haar dan weer bij de staart. Voeg wat haar toe aan je plukje en begin een nieuw vlechtje.
Herhaal dit net zo lang tot je al het haar hebt toegevoegd. Maak dan de vlecht helemaal af tot het einde van het haar en doe er een elastiekje omheen. Haal de vlecht net zo vaak om de donut heen tot de hele vlecht 'op' is. Zet dan vast met een paar schuifspeldjes.

Wil je eens een andere Gevlochten knot? Probeer dan de techniek eens met twists in plaats van met vlechten! Dit kost wel meer tijd, maar heeft ook een supermooi resultaat!

Donut buns II

In an earlier article I already wrote about donut buns: buns made with the help of a donut, a big elastic with a hole in the middle. You'll put this donut around a ponytail, let the hair fall over it and then put a normal elastic around it to make the bun.

In my earlier article I wrote about finishing the bun: wrapping the hair around it and pinning it down or doing a fun braid first. But why not do something with the hair before creating the bun?

The technique for this other bun is called a Braided bun. You'll still start with a ponytail and you'll put the donut over this. Now take a small strand of hair, not all of the hair. Do a braid with this small strand. Braid until the braid is long enough to put over the donut. Don't put an elastic around it, but place the braid over the donut and pull the end through the middle of the donut. You should have the end with the rest of the hair again now. Add some hair to your strand and start a new braid.
Keep repeating this until you've added in all of the hair. Then finish the braid until the end of the hair and put an elastic around it. Now pull the braid around the donut until you run out of braid. Then pin the ends down with a couple of bobby pins.

If you'd like to try a different Braided bun, then you could try the technique with twists instead of with braids! This will take more time, but the result is definitely worth it!

Veel meisjes komen op een leeftijd waarbij ze hun haar het liefste los hebben. Leuk, maar niet altijd even handig. Denk maar aan gym/-sportlessen of aan dagen met veel wind. Een vlecht is uiteraard een makkelijke optie, maar helaas blijven niet alle vlechten even goed zitten tijdens een sportieve activiteit. Een oplossing is al snel een paardenstaart, maar ook dat is niet altijd handig.

Een andere oplossing kan een knotje zijn. Het haar is uit je gezicht en het blijft meestal erg goed zitten. Wie wil variëren met knotjes, kan er bijvoorbeeld meerdere onder elkaar door als een soort 'hanenkam'. Hieronder zie je twee voorbeelden. Uitleg over deze techniek is terug te vinden in mijn YouTube filmpje Getwiste hanenkam. Het kapsel kan natuurlijk ook met vlechten gedaan worden.

Keeping hair out of your face

A lot of girls reach an age where they prefere to wear their hair down. Fun, but not always practical. Think about gym classes or sport events or days with a lot of wind. A braid is of course an easy option, but unfortunately not all braids are 'sports proof'. A solution could be a ponytail, but again it's not always practical.

Another solution is to do a bun. The hair is out of the face and it usually stays in place pretty nicely. Those wishing to do something special, could for example do more than one bun below each other like a bunhawk. Above you can see two examples. Details on this style can be found in my YouTube tutorial Twisted bunhawk. The style could of course be done with braids as well.

Een van de eerste YouTube filmpjes die ik publiceerde, was het Getwiste knotje. Eigenlijk een heel simpel kapsel (je gebruikt alleen de techniek twisten, waarbij je aan één kant haar toevoegt), maar door de twist en het opsteken ziet het er heel anders uit.

De eerste keer dat ik dit kapsel zelf deed, was toen ik op vakantie was in Londen. Ik wilde eigenlijk iets anders doen, maar dit lukte niet helemaal. Toen begon ik te twisten en ontstond dit kapsel. Zelf vond ik het niet eens zo bijzonder, maar toen iemand me zomaar een compliment gaf over dat ze het zo leuk vond, besloot ik dat ik er een filmpje over op moest nemen.

Dat is gebeurd en je kunt het bekijken op mijn YouTube kanaal. Vergeet je je niet te abonneren?

Twisted updo

One of the first YouTube tutorials I did, was on the Twisted updo. Actually a very simple hairstyle (you're only using the technique of twisting and adding in hair on one side), but because of the twist and the updo it looks completely different.

The first time I did this hairstyle myself was when I was on vacation in London. I actually wanted to do something else, but that failed. So I started twisting and this hairstyle was born! I didn't even like it all that much, but when someone just gave me a compliment about how much she liked it, I decided I had to do a tutorial.

Met een blogtitel als Miriam's Vlecht Lessen verwacht je dat de meeste artikelen op deze blog over vlechten gaan. Dat klopt ook, want er zijn allerlei soorten vlechten en volop ideeën om ze te combineren. Maar heb je wel eens gedacht aan geknoopte kapsels?

Knopen in je haar leggen kan geen kwaad, mits je het voorzichtig doet natuurlijk. Mijn advies bij geknoopte kapsels is altijd om met nat haar te werken. Trek de knoop ook niet in één keer heel strak aan, maar doet dit rustig. Dit voorkomt ook dat je heel veel losse haren krijgt.

De kapsels op de foto zijn voorbeelden van geknoopte kapsels. Beide 'vlechten' zijn gemaakt met de geknoopte armband techniek, waarover ik op YouTube een filmpje heb. De gewone geknoopte armbandvlecht (links) is leuk als accent, terwijl je door haar toe te voegen een volledige vlecht krijgt (rechts).

Knotted hairstyles

With a blog title like Miriam's Vlecht Lessen (meaning Miriam's braiding instructions) you'll expect most articles here to be about braids. That's true, as there's all kinds of braids and plenty of ideas to combine them. But have you ever thought about knotted hairstyles?

Making knots in your hair can't damage it, as long as you're careful of course. My advice for knotted hairstyles is to always work with wet hair. Don't pull the knot tight in one sudden move, but do it slowly. This also prevents getting loads of fly-aways.

The hairstyles in the photo are an example of knotted hairstyles. Both 'braids' have been done using the knotted bracelet technique on which I have a YouTube tutorial. The normal knotted bracelet braid (left) is a fun accent braid, while you can create a full braid by adding in hair (right).

Wie gaat vlechten, heeft niet alleen kennis van vlechttechnieken nodig. Bij bijna elk kapsel zul je elastiekjes gebruiken en daarnaast zul je ook regelmatig schuifspeldjes nodig hebben. Verschillende kleuren lint zijn nodig voor lintvlechten en vaak zul je bloemetjes of strikken gebruiken om het kapsel helemaal af te maken.

Naast deze basisspullen voor het vlechten zijn er nog een aantal dingen die handig zijn om te hebben als je gaat vlechten:

• Een topsy tail (rode ding op de foto): deze kun je gebruiken om makkelijk een 'hair wrapped ponytail' te doen, oftewel een staart waarbij je het elastiekje verbergt door er haar omheen te wikkelen. In mijn YouTube filmpje Bubbelvlecht kun je zien hoe dit gaat. De topsy tail kun je ook gebruiken voor een 'flipped ponytail', oftewel een omgekeerde staart: je steekt de topsy tail met de punt van boven naar beneden achter het elastiekje en trekt dan al het haar erdoor. Op deze foto kun je een voorbeeld zien van een flipped ponytail.
• Een donut: deze ronde, brede elastieken zijn handig om mooie knotjes te maken. Ze zijn verkrijgbaar in verschillende formaten en kleuren. Tip: kies een kleur die lijkt op de eigen haarkleur!
• Een kam met een scherpe punt: wil je mooie scheidingen maken, dan is een kam met een punt echt ideaal. Deze kam is ook heel geschikt voor het maken van speciale scheidingen, bijvoorbeeld een hartjesscheiding.
• Een tweede spiegel: vlecht je je eigen haar, dan vind ik negen van de tien keer een tweede spiegel onmisbaar. Zet de spiegel zo neer dat je zowel de voorkant als de achterkant van je haar kunt zien en waarschijnlijk zul je merken dat het vlechten ineens iets makkelijker wordt!

Hair helping items

Those who start braiding don't just need to know how to braid. For almost every hairstyle you'll need elastics and often bobby pins as well. Different ribbon colors are needed for ribbon braids and you'll often use flowers or bows to finish off the hairstyle.

Next to these basic items for braiding there's a few more items that can be very helpful:

• A topsy tail (the red thing in the photo): you can use this to do a hair wrapped ponytail, a ponytail where you hide the elastic by wrapping hair around it. In my YouTube tutorial Bubble braid you can see how this works. The topsy tail can also be used for a flipped ponytail: put the topsy tail with the pointy end down at the back of the elastic and then pull all of the hair through. This photo shows you an example of a flipped ponytail.
• A donut: these round, big elastics are perfect for making buns. They're available in different sizes and colors. Tip: choose a color that matches the hair color as much as possible!
• A comb with a sharp point: if you want to make good partings, then a comb with a good sharp point is a must have. This comb can also be used for special partings, for example a heart parting.
• A second mirror: are you braiding your own hair, then I find a second mirror necessary almost every time. Put the mirror down in such a way that you can see the back and front of your hair and you'll probably discover braiding your own hair becomes a lot easier!
