How to: French braid with ribbon

Helpful tutorials:
3 strand braid
French braid

You'll need:
2 elastics
3 ribbons (about the length of the hair, longer is fine)

How to do this hairstyle?
  1. Comb all of the hair backwards. Lift up a top section of hair en take a small strand of hair beneath this. Put the elastic with the three ribbons attached to it around this small strand.
  2. Now take the top section again and divide it into three. Add 1 ribbon to each strand.
  3. Cross the left strand (along with the ribbon) over the middle strand and then cross the right strand (along with the ribbon) over the middle strand.
  4. Now put the ribbon from the left strand to the side for a moment. Add some hair to the left strand.
  5. Cross the left strand over the middle on.
  6. Now take the ribbon you've put aside and put it on top of the middle strand (this should be your only strand without a ribbon).
  7. Put the ribbon from the right strand to the side for a moment. Add some hair to the right strand.
  8. Cross the right strand over the middle on.
  9. Now take the ribbon you've put aside and put it on top of the middle strand (which was your only strand without a ribbon).
  10. Keep repeating steps 4 through 9 until you've added in all of the hair.
  11. Now continue a regular 3 strand braid, but make sure the ribbon always stays visible. The best way to do this is to take the ribbon from the strand you're gonna cross over and put it to the side. Then cross the strand over. Take the ribbon and add it to the middle strand. This way you can always see the ribbon.
  12. When you've reached the end of the hair, finish off with an elastic. If you have leftover ribbon, you can either tie it into a bow or simply cut it off.
Good luck!

How to: Yelena's hairstyle from Frozen 2

Helpful tutorials:
3 strand braid

You'll need:
9 small elastics (or 18, if you're using double elastics)

How to do this hairstyle?
  1. Part the hair off centre, about in the middle of the eyebrow.
  2. Create a second part on the other side of the centre, also about in the middle of the eyebrow.
  3. Now create a third part from the left to the right part, about 5 centimeters away from the forehead. This is the hair for your first ponytail.
  4. Put an elastic around this ponytail. In the movie, Yelena has white hair and uses dark elastics - because I have dark hair, I've used white elastics.
  5. Now create on each side of this ponytail three smaller ponytails. Try to make nice and straight parts every time. Tip: start the part at the top and then go down (starting at the middle ponytail you have) before going to the front.
  6. Once you've created all seven ponytails, comb the hair from these ponytails back and put an elastic around them.
  7. Lastly, take a strand of hair on the left side of the head. The strand starts at the back of the neck.
  8. Divide the hair from this strand into three and do a regular 3 strand braid. Finish off with an elastic. Be careful: Yelena wears this braid to the front, so make sure your braid stays there.
Good luck!

How to: Dutch 3D round braid with 4 strand woven braid

Helpful tutorials:
Dutch 3D round braid

You'll need:
1 elastic
1 ribbon
1 small elastic
Topsy tail (if you wish to hide the elastic with hair - an alternative is to use a flower clip or bow)

How to do this hairstyle?
  1. Attach the ribbon to the big elastic.
  2. Part the hair off centre.
  3. Take a small section of hair on the side with the most hair and divide this into four equal parts.
  4. Start a Dutch 3D round braid with these four strands. Angel your braid towards the ear.
  5. Continue until you've added in all of the hair. Finish on the side of the head.
  6. Use your elastic with the ribbon attached to it to finish off your Dutch 3D round braid.
  7. Take your topsy tail and put it point down through the elastic. Take a small strand of hair, wrap it around the elastic and then put the end of the strand through the opening of the topsy tail. Pull the topsy tail down. You've now done a hair wrapped ponytail, your elastic is hidden. You could also choose to hide your elastic with a flower clip or a bow. If you want to do that, skip this step and add the flower clip or bow once you've finished braiding.
  8. Divide the hair from your ponytail into three equal strands. The ribbon is your fourth strands. The start position of the ribbon doesn't matter for the braid.
  9. Now do a 4 strand woven braid: take the far left strand and cross it over the strand next to it, under the next strand and over the last strand (where 'strand' is written, you can also read 'ribbon').
  10. Repeat step 9 all the way down the hair. Finish off with a small elastic.
Good luck!

How to: Box fishtail headband braid with braided bun

Helpful tutorials:
Dutch 3D splitbraid (the technique is similair)
3 strand braid

You'll need:
2 small elastics
2 or 3 bigger elastics
Bobby pins
If desired, a flower or bow hair clip

How to do this hairstyle?

  1. Part the hair just off center. Create a second part starting at the first part and going down to the ear, so you have a section of hair at the front of the head. Make sure to have this section on the side with the most hair.
  2. Comb the rest of the hair backwards and tie it into a ponytail.
  3. Now take a small strand of hair close to the part and divide this strand into two: a left strand (far away from the forehead) and a right strand (close to the forehead).
  4. Take a small strand of hair from the left strand and divide it into two. Cross half over the left strand and cross half under the left strand. Then add both strands to the right strand.
  5. Take a small strand of hair from the right strand and divide it into two. Cross half over the right strand and cross half under the right strand. Then add both strands to the left strand.
  6. Repeat step 4.
  7. Take some hair on the left side of the left strand, cross it under the left strand and add it to the right strand.
  8. Repeat step 5.
  9. Take some hair on the right side of the right strand, cross it under the right strand and add it to the left strand.
  10. Repeat steps 6 through 9 until you've added in all of the hair.
  11. Then repeat step 4 and 5 until you've gone past the ear and finish off with a small elastic.
  12. Add the braid to the ponytail. You can do this by using another elastic or by lifting up the old ponytail elastic a little bit and pulling the end of the braid through.
  13. Divide the hair from the ponytail (so including the end of the braid) into three and do a regular braid with this hair. Finish off with a small elastic.
  14. Twist the braid around the ponytail elastic, so you'll get a bun. Put another elastic around the bun and use bobby pins to keep the bun in place.
  15. If you like, you can hide the elastic from the braid with a flower or bow.
Good luck!

How to: Loop braid with yarn

Helpful tutorials:
3 strand braid

You'll need:
1 big elastic
Smaller elastics (how many depends on the length of the hair)
Yarn, cut in pieces about twice the length of the hair (the more strands of yarn, the bigger your braids will be - I'd advice at least 10 pieces per 'strand')
If desired, a flower or bow hair clip

How to do this hairstyle?
  1. Comb all of the hair back and tie it into a ponytail.
  2. Take the pieces of yarn and pull them through the elastic, so that there's an equal amount of yarn pieces on each side of the ponytail. Pull on the pieces until both sides are the same length.
  3. Take the yarn on one side and divide it into two strands.
  4. Take a small strand of hair on the same side and start a regular 3 strand braid. Continue braiding until the end of the hair / the yarn and finish off with a small elastic.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 on the other side.
  6. Cross the left yarn braid over the ponytail. Then cross the right yarn braid over the left braid. Do not pull them too tight, the idea is to create loops.
  7. Now take a small strand of hair from the ponytail below the section where the yarn braids cross each other. Put this strand over the crossed yarn braids and then pull it through the middle of the ponytail to the back. Then put an elastic around the hair (so NOT around the yarn braids).
  8. If you like, you can pull a little on the yarn braids to create better loops.
  9. Repeat steps 6 through 8 until you've reached the end of the hair / yarn braids.
  10. If you like, you can add a flower or bow clip as decoration to your ponytail.
Good luck!

How to: Dutch braids with rainbow ribbons

Apologies for not posting much, but I'm in the middle of moving houses!

Helpful tutorials:
Dutch braid (continues as slide up braid)

You'll need:
3 small elastics
Ribbons in the colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue, pink and purple (each ribbon should be a little longer than the hair itself)
Topsy tail

How to do this hairstyle?
  1. Attach the ribbons to a small elastic.
  2. Part just off centre. Take a small strand of hair above the ear on the side with the most hair and put the elastic with the ribbons around it. Then bring the ribbons to the side.
  3. Do a Dutch braid on the side with the most hair. Do not braid the ribbons! Continue braiding all the way down to the end of the hair and finish off with a small elastic.
  4. Now take your topsy tail and put it under the second stitch of your Dutch braid. Put the red ribbon through the eye of the topsy tail and pull the topsy tail away from the Dutch braid. Your red ribbon should now have gone under the Dutch braid.
  5. Go down one braiding stitch and pull the orange ribbon under the Dutch braid with the help of your topsy tail.
  6. Repeat step 5 with the yellow, green, blue, pink and purple ribbon. Each time go down one braiding stitch, so each ribbon is clearly visible.
  7. Now use the loose hair to do a second Dutch braid. Add the ribbons one by one to your Dutch braid. Do this by taking just a tiny bit of hair on the inside of the braid and adding a ribbon instead.
  8. When you've added all of the ribbons, continue braiding until the end of the hair. Finish off with a small elastic.
Good luck!

How to: 6 strand ribbon braid with bubble fishtail braid

Today it's the Dutch King's birthday, so a special hairstyle with our Dutch colors: orange and red-white-blue!

Helpful tutorials:
6 strand ribbon braid (continues as slide up braid)
Fishtail braid
Pancaking

You'll need:
1 big elastic
1 ribbon
Small elastics (how many depends on the length of the hair)

How to do this hairstyle?

  1. Attach a ribbon to a small elastic. The ribbon can be the length of the hair (a little shorter is fine as well).
  2. Comb all of the hair backwards and take a small section from the front. Bring this section forwards.
  3. Take a small strand of hair below this section and attach the elastic with the ribbon to this. Then bring the front section back.
  4. Divide this section of hair into 5 strands. The ribbon is your sixth strand. Arrange the hair like this: hair - hair - hair - ribbon - hair - hair.
  5. Now start a 6 strand ribbon braid: cross the left strand under - over - under and then cross the right strand over - under - over.
  6. Repeat step 5 until your braid reaches the neck.
  7. Put an elastic around all of the hair. Do you have ribbon left? Then you can - after you've done the fishtail braid - tie it into a bow around the elastic (tip: do this after braiding the fishtail, or your bow may get loose again).
  8. Now divide the hair from the ponytail into two and start a fishtail braid.
  9. Braid about 6 or 8 pieces and then put elastics around the two strands you have. If you like, you can pancake the braid.
  10. Continue step 9 until you've reached the end of the hair. Of course you can also choose not to braid until the end of the hair, like in the photo: step 9 has been done three times in total there.
Good luck!

How to: St. Patrick's Day clover

Helpful tutorials:
-

You'll need:
2 elastics
Topsy tail
Green ribbon, if you like

How to do this hairstyle?
  1. Comb all of the hair back.
  2. Take the top section and put an elastic around it.
  3. Divide the hair from the ponytail you now have into three equal parts.
  4. Bring the left and right section to the side and take the middle section.
  5. Now grab your topsy tail and put it behind the elastic with the end pointing down.
  6. Put the middle section of hair through the loop of the topsy tail.
  7. Hold the strand of hair with your fingers. Hold it on the side where the hair goes into the loop of the  topsy tail.
  8. Now carefully pull the topsy tail down. Because you're holding the hair, you're creating the top leaf of your clover.
  9. Now put the topsy tail behind the elastic with the end pointing towards the right.
  10. Take the left section of hair from your ponytail and put it through the loop of the topsy tail.
  11. Repeat step 7.
  12. Carefully pull the topsy tail to the right. You're now creating the left leaf of your clover.
  13. Put the topsy tail behind the elastic with the end pointing towards the left.
  14. Take the right section of hair from your ponytail and put it through the loop of the topsy tail.
  15. Repeat step 7.
  16. Carefully pull the topsy tail to the left. You're now creating the right left of your clover.
  17. Put an elastic around the three strands together. You can shape your clover a little more if you like and if you wish, you can put a green ribbon around the elastic for an extra St. Patrick's Day effect.
Good luck!

How to: Ladder braid with 3D split braid

Helpful tutorials:
Waterfall braid
3 strand braid
3D split braid

You'll need:
1 big elastic
1 small elastic
2 temporary elastic
Topsy tail

How to do this hairstyle?
  1. Part the hair just off center.
  2. Take a small strand of hair from the side with the most hair and divide it into three. Do a waterfall braid with this hair.
  3. When you've braided until just behind the ear, stop doing a waterfall braid. Continue a little further as a regular braid and then finish off with a temporary elastic.
  4. Now take a new section of hair below the waterfall braid. Divide this section into two - left and right.
  5. Take your first waterfall strand and cross it over strand Left from step 4. You now have three strands to braid with again.
  6. Cross strand Right from step 4 over the middle strand.
  7. Add the next waterfall strand to the left strand of your braid and cross them together over the middle strand of the braid.
  8. Add some hair to the right strand of your braid (be careful not to take any waterfall strands!) and cross the strand over the middle on.
  9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 until you've added in all of the waterfall strands. Try to keep your braid close to the waterfall braid, so it will look like the two braids are actually 1 big braid.
  10. When you've added in all of the waterfall strands, braid a little further without adding in hair. Finish off with a temporary elastic.
  11. Take all of the hair together, including the braids, and put an elastic around it. You can now remove the temporary elastics from your braids.
  12. Take your topsy tail and put it just behind the elastic. Take a small strand of hair from your ponytail, wrap it twice or three times around the elastic and then put the end through the eye of the topsy tail. Pull the topsy tail down.
  13. Divide the hair from your ponytail into three strands and do a 3D split braid: before crossing a strand over, split it into two and cross the top part over the middle strand and the bottom part under.
  14. Continue until the end of the hair and finish off with an elastic.
Good luck!

How to: Corset braid with faux fishtail

Helpful tutorials:
Dutch braid

You'll need:
1 long ribbon (about the length of the hair. Tip: it's better to use a ribbon that's too long than too short!)
Topsy tail or a big needle
Elastics (how much depends on the length of the hair)

How to do this hairstyle?
  1. Part the hair down the middle. For the hairstyle in the photo, a diagonal part was used.
  2. Do a Dutch braid on each side of the part. Finish off each braid with a temporary elastic.
  3. When you've done both braids, bring them together and put an elastic around the braids together.
  4. You can now either do the corset part of the braid first of the faux fishtail part. If you choose to first do the corset part, I'd advise creating the bow once you've done the faux fishtail part.
  5. For the faux fishtail part:
    • put an elastic around the hair, an inch or two below the first elastic. Now do a flip: create an opening and pull the hair through this opening.
    • Now put another elastic around the hair, an inch or two below the previous elastic, and create a new flip. Keep repeating this until you've reached the end of the hair.
  6. For the corset part:
    • take the long ribbon and bring this with the help of a topsy tail or big needle below the left side of your right Dutch braid. Don't pull the ribbon completely through!
    • Bring the other end of the ribbon under the right side of the left Dutch braid.
    • Now pull on the ribbon so both ends are equally long.
    • Use the topsy tail or needle to alternately cross the ribbon under the left and right Dutch braid. This works like you're putting a lace in your shoe. Try to make sure the ribbon doesn't twist.
    • When you've reached the end of the Dutch braids, put the topsy tail / needle behind the elastic and pull the ends of the ribbon down.
    • If you have enough ribbon left, you can wrap the ends around the elastic to create a bow.
Good luck!

How to: Dutch braid with ribbon accents and a 4 strand ribbon braid

Happy holidays!

Helpful tutorials:
Dutch braid
4 strand ribbon braid

You'll need:
1 small elastic with two ribbons attached to it (1 of the ribbons should be the same length as the hair, the other ribbon should be the length from the forehead to the bottom of the neck)
1 bigger elastic
1 small elastic
Topsy tail or a bigger needle
How to do this hairstyle?
  1. Brush all of the hair and comb it backwards.
  2. Take a small strand of hair in the middle and bring this forward.
  3. Take a smaller strand behind the forward strand and put the elastic with the ribbons attached to it around it.
  4. Bring the ribbons to the front and keep them out of the way for now.
  5. Take the forward strand, bring it backwards again and divide it into 3 strands. Start a Dutch braid.
  6. Continue your Dutch braid until you've added all of the hair. Finish off with an elastic.
  7. Now take the longest ribbons (in the photo the green ribbon) and your topsy tail / big needle.
  8. Now start weaving:
    • Using a topsy tail? Weave the topsy tail on one side over/under the hair you've added in until you only have the eye of the topsy tail sticking out. Put the ribbon through the eye and pull the topsy tail down. Haven't reached the end of the braid yet? Weave the topsy tail again. When you've reached the end of the braid, put the topsy tail behind the elastic. Put the ribbon through the eye again and pull the topsy tail down so the ribbon has gone through the elastic.
    • Using a big needle? Then put the ribbon through the eye of the needle. Then weave the needle on one side of the braid over/under the hair you've added in until you've reached the end of the braid. Finish off by putting the needle behind the elastic and pulling it down so the ribbon has gone through the elastic.
  9. Repeat step 8 with the shorter ribbon on the other side of the braid.
  10. If you like, you can wrap the left-over ribbon around the elastic (if you have enough). You can also use a flower or a bow.
  11. Now divide the hair from the ponytail into three strands. Take the ribbon and arrange everything in the order hair-hair-ribbon-hair.
  12. Start a 4 strand ribbon braid: cross the left strand under-over and the right strand over-under. Repeat this until you've reached the end of the hair. Finish off with a small elastic.

  5. Add some hair to the front strand and cross it over the middle strand.
  6. Take a small strand of hair from the back strand and bring this to the side. Now cross the back strand over the middle one.
  7. Repeat step 5 and 6 until you've reached the other ear. Then braid on a few more stitches and finish off with a small elastic.
  8. Bring the loose strands from step 6 to the front and add a clip to it if needed to keep them out of the way.
  9. Comb the rest of the hair to the take so it's smooth and then take a small section of hair above the ear (the same ear as where you started step 3). Divide it into 3.
  10. Cross the front strand (the strand closest to the first braid) over the middle one and cross the back strand over the middle one.
  11. Now add the first small strand you've removed in step 6 to the front strand and cross them both over the middle strand.

  18. If you like, you can add a flower or a bow.

How to: Cornrows with a half up messy bun

How to: Cornrows with a half up messy bun

Helpful tutorials:
Dutch braid tutorial
Messy bun tutorial (messy bun starts at 2.46)

You'll need:
1 or 2 bigger elastics
4 small elastics
Bobbypins
Decoration if desired (bow / flower)

How to do this hairstyle?

  1. Comb the hair and create a part just off center. Go from the forehead all the way back and put an elastic around the side with the least hair.
  2. On the side with the most hair, create a part above the ear for your first braid (the bottom braid in the photo). Tie the rest of the hair out of the way for now.
  3. Start a small Dutch braid. Try to start off with small strands and add small strands of hair every time. Add hair until you've reached the ear and then braid down a little further without adding in hair. Put a small elastic around your braid.
  4. Release the hair you've tied out of the way in step two and create a part next to your first part. This is for the top braid in the photo. To make it easier, you can put an elastic around the loose hair you have left.
  5. Do another small Dutch braid and try to use small strands again. Add hair until the braid is about the same length as your bottom braid, then braid a few more stitches without adding in hair and finish off the braid with a small elastic.
  6. Take the last loose hair from this section and create a part in the middle. To make it easier, you can put an elastic around the top half.
  7. Create a part in the middle of the bottom half. Put an elastic around each section.
  8. Now create a part in the middle of the top half. Put an elastic around each section.
  9. Release the hair from the bottom front section and from the top back section. Use this hair to create a third Dutch braid. First, use all of the hair from the bottom front section and then add the hair from top back section.
  10. Once your braid is the same length as your previous two, braid a few more stitches without adding in hair and then put an elastic around it.
  11. Now do the final Dutch braid with the hair from the top front section and the bottom back section. First add all of the hair from the top front section, do two or three stitches without adding in hair and then add in the hair from the bottom back section. Add hair until the braid is the same length as the other three, braid a few more stitches normally and then put an elastic around the braid.
  12. Release the hair you've tied out of the way in step 1.
  13. Take the four braids together and a big strand of hair from the side with the least hair.
  14. Put an elastic around the braids and the hair and use another elastic and / or bobby pins to turn this hair into a messy bun.
  15. If you like, you can add a flower or a bow as decoration.
Good luck!

Knotted bracelet braid tutorial
Messy bun tutorial (messy bun starts at 2.46)

Two big elastics
2 small elastics
Bobbypins
A flower or a bow if desired

How to do this hairstyle?
  1. Start off by brushing and combing the hair. Then create a side part.
  2. Take a small section of hair on the side with the most hair, next to the part.
  3. Start a knotted bracelet braid with this section: divide the section into three strands, take the left strand and cross it over the middle strand (make sure to keep a small loop on the left side) and then cross the right strand over this left strand, under the middle strand and then pull it through the loop on the left side. Tighten the knot, make sure to hold the middle strand as well while you tighten the knot.
  4. Continue the knotted bracelet braid until the braid reaches the nape of the neck. Finish off with a small elastic.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 with a new small section of hair from behind your first braid.
  6. Take all of the hair and tie it into a ponytail.
  7. Turn the ponytail into a messy bun. There's several ways to do this, for this style I've wrapped all of the hair around the elastic before putting another elastic around it. I've used a few bobbypins to secure loose ends, but I've also left out a lot of strand for an even more playful look.
  8. If you like, you can add a flower or a bow.
Good luck!

  2. Put an elastic around the left and right part to keep it out of the way. You can now start braiding the middle part.
  3. Start a  5 strand Dutch braid with this and add hair once.
  4. Before adding hair for the second time, slice off a small section of hair. Do this on both sides.
  5. Repeat step 4 twice, so you have 3 loose strands. Of course you could do more, but make sure you have the same amount of loose strands on both sides.
  6. Finish off the 5 strand Dutch braid at the neck and add an elastic.
  7. Now start a French braid on the left side. Use the loose strands from the left side of your 5 strand Dutch braid to add in. Finish off the braid near the neck with an elastic.
  8. Repeat step 7 on the right side.
  9. Now take all 3 braids together and put an elastic around them.
  10. Use the hair from the ponytail to create a 3 strand braid. Finish off with an elastic.
  11. Turn your braid into a bun and pin it into place with bobby pins. If you like, you can add some flower pins or other decorations.
Good luck!

Variation tips: instead of French braids you could also do Dutch braids and instead of a regular braid you could of course use another braiding technique for your bun.

How to: woven braid

Helpful tutorials:
4 strand fishtail braid tutorial (the technique is slightly different from this braid, but it gives you an idea of the weave part)

You'll need:
One small elastic
A flower or a bow if desired

How to do this hairstyle?
  1. If you want to recreate the braid exactly as in the photo: bring all the hair to one side. Of course you can also start this braid from a ponytail.
  2. Now take a small strand of hair on the left side and keep this away from the rest of the hair.
  3. Now divide the rest of the hair in 8 to 12 thin strands.
  4. Take the first strand (the one you were keeping away from the rest) and bring this strand onder-over the other strand. You're alternating your moves: under strand 2, over strand 3, under strand 4 and so on. Make sure you end by going under the last strand.
  5. Now take the strand on the right side that your left strand has lastly gone under. Bring this strand to the left side by weaving it through the hair the opposite way of the first strand: where the first strand went under, you now go over and where the first strand went over, you now go under. Make sure to end by going over.
  6. Repeat step 4 with the last strand you crossed over on the left side.
  7. Repeat step 5 with the last strand you went under on the right side.
  8. Keep repeating this until you've reached the end of the hair. Finish off with a small elastic and a flower or a bow, if you like.
Good luck!

How to: Challenging stacked braid

Helpful tutorials:
Pull through braid tutorial
Pancaking tutorial
5 strand intricate braid tutorial

You'll need:
Small elastics (the exact number depends on how many you use for the pull through braid)
Bobby pins
A flower or a bow if desired

How to do this hairstyle?
  1. Part just off centre.
  2. Take a section of hair (not too big and not too small) and bring this to the side. This is the hair you're going to use later for the braid on top of the pull through braid.
  3. Now start a pull through braid. Make sure you pancake a lot!
  4. Continue until you've added all of the hair and then add one final elastic.
  5. Now take the hair you've seperated off in the beginning and do a 5 strand intricate braid with this. In the photo only 1 micro braid has been done (the strand that stays in the middle), but of course you can also do 2 as in the tutorial.
  6. Continue braiding until the end of the strand of hair or until the end of the pull through braid (depending on the length of the hair). Then put a small elastic around the braid.
  7. Use bobby pins to pin the 5 strand braid to the pull through braid.
  8. Put a final elastic around the 5 strand braid and the pull through braid together and add a flower or a bow if you like.
Good luck!

How to: Heart with butterfly braid

Helpful tutorials:
Lace braid tutorial

You'll need:
Three small elastics
Twisty pins

How to do this hairstyle?
  1. Part the hair down the middle.
  2. Start a lace braid from the middle of the back of the head. Bring the braid up and only add hair on the side of the part. Repeat this for three or four braid stitches and then bring the braid more to the side. Continue to add hair on one side only.
  3. When you've braided another three or four stitches, bring the braid down (this creates the heart shape). Add hair until the ear and then continue braiding without adding in hair. Finish off with a temporary elastic.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 on the other side.
  5. Bring the two braids together and put an elastic around it. You should have a heart shaped braid now.
  6. Divide the hair from the elastic into two.
  7. Now take a new strand of hair behind the ear, divide it into three and start a regular braid. Braid three times without adding in hair and then continue a lace braid: only add hair on the inside. This hair is from the 'heart hair'.
  8. When you've added in all of the hair, continue braiding until the end of the hair without adding in. Finish off with a small elastic.
  9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 on the other side. Try to add the same number of strands as on the other side.
  10. If you like, add some twisty pins above the heart.
Good luck!
