How to: Yelena's hairstyle from Frozen 2

Helpful tutorials:
3 strand braid

You'll need:
9 small elastics (or 18, if you're using double elastics)

How to do this hairstyle?

1. Part the hair off centre, about in the middle of the eyebrow.
2. Create a second part on the other side of the centre, also about in the middle of the eyebrow.
3. Now create a third part from the left to the right part, about 5 centimeters away from the forehead. This is the hair for your first ponytail.
4. Put an elastic around this ponytail. In the movie, Yelena has white hair and uses dark elastics - because I have dark hair, I've used white elastics.
5. Now create on each side of this ponytail three smaller ponytails. Try to make nice and straight parts every time. Tip: start the part at the top and then go down (starting at the middle ponytail you have) before going to the front.
6. Once you've created all seven ponytails, comb the hair from these ponytails back and put an elastic around them.
7. Lastly, take a strand of hair on the left side of the head. The strand starts at the back of the neck.
8. Divide the hair from this strand into three and do a regular 3 strand braid. Finish off with an elastic. Be careful: Yelena wears this braid to the front, so make sure your braid stays there.

Hunger Games kapsels

Eindelijk is het dan zo ver: het laatste deel van de Hunger Games - Mockingjay Part 2 - is in de bioscoop te zien!
Niet alleen de films zijn echter populair, ook voor de kapsels is er veel aandacht geweest. Zoek maar eens op YouTube op 'Katniss braid' (Katniss vlecht) en je zult bijna een pagina vol met uitlegfilmpjes vinden.

De Katniss vlecht - een schuine opvlecht over de achterkant van het hoofd (foto 1) - werd met name in de eerste twee films gebruikt en werd meteen ontzettend populair. Ook het haar van Katniss' zusje Prim zorgde voor het verschijnen van veel filmpjes op YouTube. In het eerste deel zijn haar kapsels nog simpel met gewone invlechten, maar vooral in deel 2 heeft ze een aantal bijzondere vlechten. Zelf heb ik filmpjes gemaakt over twee van die vlechten: Prim's vlecht (te zien als ze buiten met Katniss praat) en Prim's strikvlecht (te zien tijdens de Trekking).

Helaas valt het laatste deel van de filmserie qua kapsels wat tegen. De enige opvallende vlecht in de film is die van Prim: een opvlecht aan één kant van haar hoofd (foto 2). De echte fans van de films zullen hier echter niet van wakker liggen, want hen gaat het natuurlijk om de film zelf!

Hunger Games hairstyles

Finally it's there: the last part of the Hunger Games - Mockingjay Part 2 - has hit the cinemas!
It's not just the movies that are populair, there has also been a lot of attention for the hairstyles. Just do a search on YouTube on 'Katniss braid' and you'll find almost a page full of results with tutorials.

The Katniss braid - a diagonal Dutch braid across the back of the head (photo 1) - was used mostly in the first two movies and became very populair. The hair of Katniss' sister Prim was also a reason for a lot of new tutorials on YouTube. In the first movie her hairstyles are quite simple with just French braids, but especially in the second movie she has some special braids. I did tutorials on two of those braids myself: Prim's braid (from the scene where she talks outside with Katniss) and Prim's bow braid (from the Reaping scene).

Unfortunately the last part of the film series isn't that special braidwise. The only braid that stands out is Prim's braid: a same side Dutch braid (photo 2). Of course this won't bother the true fans of the movies, because for them it's all about the movie itself!
